Small shops in Los Angeles are always fun to find among the chaos of a big city. Restrained Whimsy was opened in 2019 on Ventura Blvd in Studio City.
In 2008 Brian and Scott Marshall-Miller decided that they wanted to start a business together. But for years this plan had to sit on the back burner since both worked full time, Brian worked in the medical field and Scott with luxury goods and entertainment. Years later Scott was finally able to retire and focus his time on their business idea, later naming it Restrained Whimsy.
Scott being a native Angelino decided to build their business in Studio City to stay local since they have lived in Los Angeles for over 20 years now. From years of working and traveling on both sides, Brian and Scott decided that they wanted a store that would sell all the things they had come to love. Working with local companies and independent artisans, Brian and Scott are able to sell fun products such as candles that smell like fresh baked bread, elephant shaped cookie jars, and rose bath sets.
Restrained Whimsy sells a plethora of goods from pasta to leather duffel bags. When walking around the shop everything you see is fun and colorful, and not only are there different things on every table to look at, but visually its fun to look at and a great way to discover new things. Every table and shelf has different types of products. I already love lavender scented things so it was nice to find a bath collection of lavender scented things like baths salts and soap bars, but there were also other times that matched the little collection. I have always enjoyed finding little shops such as this one because I’m not supporting large companies, but instead another local who has put time and energy into everything in their store.
